6 Reasons Why VR and AR are a Reality, not Just Fiction
Industry Specialists and those interested in innovations are no longer surprised by virtual or augmented reality. However, for the “mere mortals” such a technology is a novelty. For all who missed that moment when ideas became reality, 6 proofs that the future has already come.
1. Entertainment
Last year the world went crazy playing Pokemon Go. By tickling gamers’ nostalgic memories, this augmented reality game has made the idea of collecting Cartoon creatures in real life possible like never before. Without modern technologies, such a concept could have been hardly implemented, but here it is! And, believe it or not, this is just the beginning.
2. Culture and art
Now a 360 degree view is not just an opportunity to get the full view of premises or landscape. There are plenty of music videos (our little selection here), video excursions filmed in such a format, and soon a 40-minute film from Oculus will be released (the trailer could be watched here).
3. Social networks
It is quite possible that after a while VR will be integrated into social networks. Mark Zuckerberg believes in VR so much that he wants to invest $3 billion to get the technology where it needs to be, because he thinks it’s not good enough yet. “We’re working on VR because I think it’s the next major computing and communication platform after phones,” he said in 2016. “We’ll have the power to share our full sensory and emotional experience with people wherever we’d like.”
4. Education
VR is not a mere entertainment. Technologists are already starting its introduction to the education system. By replacing textbooks, Both VR and AR have been touted as a unique way of training medical students. They can use AR and VR either working on digital cadavers or dummies that can be easily and cheaply reset for constant reuse by hundreds or thousands of students. Additionally, VR can be used to create digital labs that allow students to get the hands-on experience they need avoiding extra cost associated with physical labs.
5. VR & AR as a marketing advantage
Technologies are actively used for product presentations in various fields, from accessories and interior items to real estate and architectural projects of the future. After all, this is a unique opportunity to see and visit places which in present time exist only as ideas, drawings or schemes.
6. Science and technology
A large amount of applications that should help specialists to perform their work tasks are now being developed. In particular, we are talking about the technology that could be useful to astronauts of the international space station or specialists in microbiology, just to name a few.
Therefore, rest assured, if you have not heard about any of the above, then look closer, most likely you just have not distinguished fiction from reality.
